St Marks School was founded in 1865 by Joseph Burnett, a chemist and entrepreneur who made his fortune on America's first commercially viable vanilla extract. It is an Episcopal, coeducational, boarding and day school located 25 miles west of Boston, serving around 380 students, grades 9-12,
The St. Mark's boys varsity basketball team plays in the Independent School League (ISL) and vies for a seed in the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class B division post season tournament. This past March, they earned the NEPSAC Class B Large division tournament 1 seed and swept their way to the title.
This season, John Zall takes over the boys varsity basketball program at St. Mark's School after five seasons as head coach at Vermont Academy, where he rebuilt one of New England's prestigious NEPSAC Class AAA programs. Prior to Vermont Academy, Zall spent five seasons on the NCAA Division 3 staff at Trinity College (CT) where he earned a promotion to associate head coach. Before Trinity, he worked in the player development department of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks.

CJ Farrell (2027) 6’1 guard - 2025-26 All NEPSAC B-Large. 2025-26 and 2024-25 All Independent School League. 2024-25. 2024-25 All-NEPSAC Honorable Mention. Farrell can do it all and is an elite competitor and overall athlete. Has two D1 Football offers (Colgate and Stonehill), but is fully committed to pursuing college basketball as first option. He is a crafty finisher, makes shots, has great IQ/vision, and makes elite plays on defense. Led SM in 3’s made and 3pt percentage last season (43%). Also led in steals and deflections and was second on the team in rebounds (almost 6 per game). Has Ivy, Patriot, and NESCAC interest. Plays club ball with Middlesex Magic. Hayden Krause (2027) 6’0 guard- Krause is an elite shooter who gets hot quickly. Great leader and glue guy. Plays club ball with House We Built. 4.0 gpa PH profile
Luca Palermo (2027) 6’6 forward - 2025-26 All NEPSAC B-Large. 2025-26 All Independent School League. 2024-25 All-ISL Honorable Mention (only 15 games played) Tough, high IQ player who is a force in the paint as well as a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Wins 50/50 rebounds and finishes through contact very well. Has elite footwork and scoring ability. Led SM in ppg (18) and reb/gm (9.5) with 17 games of 20+ pts. He has extended his range to hit 3s consistently off the catch. Phenomenal passer who makes great decisions from the top of the key and when doubled in post. Consistent double-double performer. Mekhai Bovell-Holmes (2028) 6’2 guard/wing - Bovell-Holmes is strong and athletic, and he is going to be a great prospect to watch. He loves the defensive end - prides himself on communication, ball pressure, and rebounding. He is athletic and a tough finisher around the rim. Capable 3pt shooter. Jon Green (2028) 6’0 guard - Green joins SMS from Toronto, Canada. He is a shifty guard who is deceptive as an athlete and a tough finisher. He is a three level scoring lefty with deep 3pt range and also has great instincts as an on-ball defender. High gpa
Augie Arietta (2029) 6’1 guard - Coming from Newton North HS, he is a gym rat who keeps improving. He has a high basketball IQ and is a capable scorer. Plays club ball with BABC Academy. High gpa
Jack Garner (2029) 5’11 guard - Coming to SM from Simsbury HS in CT, Jack was an All-League guard as a sophomore. He brings great shooting ability, IQ, and toughness. There isn’t a game where he doesn’t hit the floor multiple times for loose balls. Incredibly coachable and selfless. Jack loves the game and is a gym rat. Plays club ball with Middlesex Magic.
