St. James Performance Academy Prep Team (VA) 2026-27 Player Profiles

The St. James Performance Academy is a college preparatory sports academy in Springfield, Virginia, about 15 miles outside Washington, D.C., serving middle school, high school and postgraduate student-athletes. Opened in August 2024, it’s based at The St. James, a 450,000-square-foot indoor sports complex on a 20-acre campus. The complex has four NBA-regulation basketball courts, two NHL-regulation ice rinks, a FIFA-regulation turf field, a 50-meter Olympic pool and an athletic recovery suite. Academics are delivered through a partnership with The Keystone School, and the program is accredited by the Virginia Council for Private Education, the Middle States Association and Cognia, with more than 200 courses, including 17 AP classes. St. James also fields a Nike EYBL Scholastic team led by Emmanuel “Book” Richardson, who has developed more than 100 Division I players and 23 NBA players.

St. James' Prep team is one of the fastest-rising programs in the Mid-Atlantic. In just its second season, Prep went 13-4 and finished No. 49 in the national prep computer rankings, with wins over Fork Union (VA), Perkiomen National (PA) and IX International (GA), three programs it now joins in the Elite Prep League (EPL). Prep enters the EPL this season, adding a league slate against national-level programs such as Hargrave (VA), Mt Zion (VA), Western Reserve (OH) and Massanutten (VA) to a schedule that already took the team from IMG Academy (FL) to The Skill Factory in Atlanta. It’s the kind of week-in, week-out competition that gets prep players ready for the college game.

The Prep team is led by head coach Mike Johnson. Coach Johnson is a veteran basketball coach with over 28 years of experience developing student-athletes at the grassroots, high school, AAU, and prep levels. He emphasizes discipline, player development and defense-first basketball. He also raised his son Xavier to play High Major ball at Pittsburgh and Indiana. 

The team’s Associate Head Coach is Micah Parker and the Assistant Coach is Hassan Burke. Coach Parker is a Winning -minded basketball coach with 10+ years across prep, NCAA D2, high school varsity, and elite AAU basketball. He is known for developing guards and shooters, building a strong locker-room culture, and helping 30+ student-athletes reach college programs. He brings DMV region recruiting relationships, record-setting offensive experience, and a program-builder’s background in leadership, operations, and family communication.
