National Prep Team Computer Rankings to Include OTE Teams in 2026-27
Starting with this 2026-27 season, all eight Overtime Elite (OTE) teams will be included in the National Prep Team Computer Rankings.
OTE has evolved in its approach over the years since its inception. Its current setup is now much more like that of other prep leagues. From a computer ranking standpoint, its members now play enough non-OTE games against rankings pool teams that there are enough data points to calibrate them all onto the same ratings scale. Last year, as an experiment, the National Prep Team Computer Rankings staff ran OTE's teams through the rankings for about a month, and their average team ranking landed right with, if not slightly above, those of the nation's other two toughest leagues, the Elite Prep League (EPL) and the New England Basketball League (NEBL).
OTE launched in 2021 as something new: a pro-style league for high school-aged players, run out of its own arena in Atlanta. It paid players salaries at first and was among the first to encourage them to land name, image and likeness (NIL) deals. That model proved hard to sustain. OTE moved from paying players salaries to providing them scholarships in 2022, so players could keep their college eligibility. This year it has moved to being a traditional prep league. This season it no longer runs its own teams; its eight teams are based back in their hometowns, although most of the conference games are still played as neutral site games in the OTE Arena in Atlanta.
Despite every change that it has gone through, OTE is still fielding some of the strongest teams and players in the national prep and post grad field. Its earlier years produced NBA lottery picks Amen and Ausar Thompson, Alex Sarr and Rob Dillingham, and 25 OTE alumni played in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
The eight 2026-27 OTE teams are listed below.
