Mihalich’s Mix: Avon Old Farms School (CT) 2026-27 Player Profiles

Founded in 1927, Avon Old Farms School is an all-boys boarding school for grades 9-12 plus post graduate in Avon, CT, in Hartford County. It now educates about 400 students, roughly 70% of them boarders. The Winged Beavers have a deep athletic tradition and a long record of sending graduates on to college athletic careers. In basketball, Avon competes in the Founders League and strives to earn a bid into the highly competitive New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A (large schools) postseason championship tournament.

Matt Mihalich is entering his eighth season as head coach. A Buffalo, NY, native, he comes from one of college basketball's best-known coaching families: his father, Joe Mihalich, was head coach at Niagara for 15 years and later at Hofstra. Mihalich played basketball (and ran track) at John Carroll University, then spent four seasons as an assistant at Bishop O'Connell (VA), where five of his players went on to D1. He moved to the college ranks as an assistant at George Mason (Atlantic 10) and then the University of Hartford (America East), where he rose from director of basketball operations to assistant coach before taking over at Avon in 2019.
