Mercersburg Academy 2026-27 Player Profiles
Mercersburg Academy is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory boarding and day school in Mercersburg, PA. Founded in 1893, it enrolls approximately 450 students in grades 9–12 plus postgraduates on a campus roughly 90 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. Students come from 31 nations, 28 states, and the District of Columbia; international students make up 20 percent of enrollment.
The boys basketball program is a proven college feeder. Mercersburg graduates have gone on to compete at all three NCAA levels and in professional leagues overseas. The college list over the years has included the Ivy League, Pac-12, ACC, SEC, and Patriot League, along with the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and the Centennial Conference. Alumni have played in the EuroLeague and for the Harlem Globetrotters. Notable names include Stéphane Pelle, the program's all-time leading scorer and a Parade All-American who went on to Colorado, where he became the first player in school history to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds; Kareem Wright, a four-year Mercersburg player who went on to Rutgers; and Adam Chubb, who played at Penn under Fran Dunphy before a 12-year professional career in Europe that produced three league titles and 2008 German League MVP honors.
The Blue Storm compete in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) and vie for a seed in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association (PAISAA) tournament, where they won the 2025 Commonwealth Cup Division title. The program trains and plays on the Plantz Courts, a 10,000-square-foot facility housing three full-sized courts.
Head coach Sean Crocker has led the program since 2015, taking over a team that had not won a MAPL game in three years. Mercersburg has since finished top three in the MAPL in five of six seasons, and his 2019-20 squad went 17 wins — the program's best since 2006 — and reached the PAISAA state quarterfinals. Crocker came to Mercersburg from Stuart Hall School in Staunton, VA, where he was head boys coach. His prior stops include five years teaching at Boston Latin School (2005-2010) and assistant coaching roles at Washington and Lee, Tufts, Framingham State, and Wheelock College. He has also served as director of operations for The Hoop Group and for the East Coast Fusion/Team Loaded AAU program. He holds an M.A. in Education from Tufts.

Benni Beckmann (2028) 6’7 small forward - European-style big, some touch from outside, still developing the other parts of his game. Really excited to see his development.
Ryan Brown (2027) 6’1 guard -Coming in as a post-graduate this year. Big-time career at Central York, leading assists guard in school history. Developing shooter and high-level on-ball defender and finisher, and hearing from many D2 and D3 schools in the mid-Atlantic region.
Kaya Deldag (2029) 5’11 guard -Aggressive slasher, plays with confidence and projects to be a big part of the program in the future. Focusing on winning every day and getting better.
Kellen Greene (2028) 6’3 guard - Big, strong combo/point guard. Returning starter from last year, played high-level minutes for his first two years. Shoots it at close to 40% from 3 and can finish in the lane. As he develops his on-ball defense, he projects as a D1 kid.
Marcus Hancock (2027) 6’3 wing - Post-Graduate guard/forward who had a decorated career at St Stephens St Agnes (VA). Shoots it over 40% from 3 and scored 1000 points in his high school career prior to Mercersburg. Holds D2 interest and is a D3 coach's dream. He is looking forward to the MAPL season and wants a great fit where he can play very soon.
Charlie Higgins (2029) 5’11 guard - Higgins plays the right way and is developing into a role player.
Chase Ruch (2028) 6’5 forward - A stretch 5 who has range out to 3. Developing his off-the-dribble game and his ability to guard on the wing. He likely projects to a higher academic D3 power forward.
Nate Watson (2027) 6’0 guard - Really quick point guard/ combo guard. Shot 40% from 3 last season and had a great summer with Team PA HGAL. Can really attack the rim and is improving his ability to be a true point guard. Unlocking his full impact will come down to showcasing his defensive skills against elite, athletic guards. Has been hearing from a number of D3 schools. 3.3 gpa
Camden Weyforth (2027) 6’6 wing - A lefty who can shoot it (35% last year) and pass it at high levels. Led the team in rebounding last year and will be a menace on the glass from the wing this year! Hearing from every level of high academic D3s, should be on the NE10s and Patriot League radars. 4.0 gpa
Cordell Williams (2028) 6’11 center - A developing big man with range to out to 3. Is improving his ability to run the floor and finish through contact. Will be someone who should be on D2 and Low D1s radars. His level will be determined by how much he can impact the game with his high energy.
