Governor's Academy (MA) 2026-27 Player Profiles
Established 1763 in memory of Massachusetts governor William Dummer, Governor's Academy is the oldest boarding school in New England. It is a coeducational, college-preparatory school serving grades 9-12, roughly 410 students on a 456-acre campus 33 miles north of Boston.
Their boys varsity basketball team competes in the Independent Schools League (ISL) and vies for a seed in the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class B Large division tournament.
The team is coached by Sean McGonagill. As a player, McGonagill's career was impressive. He was a four-year starter and three-year captain at Brown University. He earned Ivy League Rookie of the Year as a freshman, All-Ivy Team honors as a sophomore, junior and senior. He is Brown's third all-time leading scorer, and was at one time, their all-time leader in three-pointers made (249). After college, he then played two years professionally in Germany and England. Before arriving at Governor's in 2022, he taught at Brooklyn Preparatory High School (NY) while completing an M.S. in Education.

Sam Murray (2027) 6'3 guard - Murray is as electric as they come. He is a bouncy guard with an untapped upside to his game. He is dangerous in the open court and can throw it down with charisma and joy. Murray is also good in the half-court, acting as a knockdown shooter from deep off the catch and cutting to the rim for easy baskets. He should be able to do more on the offensive when given the opportunity. However, the defense is what makes Murray stand out. He’s got a terrific defensive stance and overall demeanor, which helps him rack up steals and create turnovers. Murray also has a feel for timing on weak-side block attempts. Good gpa PH profile
Magezi Nkugwa (2027) 6'1 point guard - 2025-26 All Independent School League. Nkugwa is a vocal, fearless competitor, and a true leader. He’s one of the most explosive mid-range scorers in the northeast, showing the ability to create space with his dribble and elevate quickly into his jumper. He’s a good vertical athlete and also shows quick twitch movements going laterally. He can operate on or off the ball and is an impressive finisher in the paint. Defensively, he’s a terrific point of attack defender with quick hands and quick feet. The 2027 prospect has scholarship level tools and could start to rack up offers as soon as this summer. Garrett Org (2027) 6'6 small forward - 2025-26 All Independent School League Honorable Mention. Org is able to shoot the ball from long range, but he's most effective using his quickness and length to breeze past larger defenders on the perimeter. Org also always competes on the defensive end and is one of the better communicators in the region when it comes to getting his teammates engaged and ready to play. He does all the right things and will be a joy for a college coach to take under their wing when the time comes. Good gpa Video highlights PH profile
Isaac Rivera (2027) 6’1 guard - Rivera has a fantastic shot which puts pressure on the defense to always know where he is at all times. He has really gotten much stronger in the last year which has improved his on ball defense and finishing through contact around the rim. Rivera is extremely vocal on the floor and does a great job of communicating with his teammates on both ends. He is a great teammate and leader. Plays club ball with Team Sims. Good gpa. PH profile
Alex Ste Marie (2028) 6’6 wing/forward - Ste Marie is a 3 level scorer that does a great job of using his size to create an advantage inside and can expand the floor with his 3 point shot. He plays with great pace and makes smart decisions with the basketball. His strong handle with the basketball allows him to initiate offense and he does a great job of handling defensive pressure. Jayden Wilbon (2029) 6'0 guard - Wilbon may be one of the most athletic underclassmen in the entire NEPSAC. He has special explosiveness and vertical pop, so he's lethal as a driver and finisher in the paint. The incoming sophomore excels as a scorer and rim attacker.
