Deerfield Academy 2026-27 Player Profiles
Deerfield Academy is an independent college-preparatory boarding school in Deerfield, MA. Deerfield is located in western Massachusetts, amongst rural farmland along the Connecticut River, about 35 miles north of Springfield, MA. Founded in 1797, it is one of the oldest secondary schools in the United States. The Academy has maintained an outstanding academic reputation. Deerfield's selectivity is evidenced its mere16-17% acceptance rate of applicants, and per Cardinal Education, it has one of the highest endowments per student of any U.S. boarding school.
The Boys Basketball Program is a college basketball feeder program, where it competes in the highly competitive New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A division. Players in recent years have gone on to play at schools including Harvard, Middlebury, Bowdoin, Rochester, St. Lawrence and several others.
The 2026-27 season marks a new era for Deerfield as Ellen Bair steps in as the program's new head coach. For the previous four years (2022–2026), Bair was the head coach of girls basketball at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr (PA). Before Shipley, she was head coach of girls basketball at Linden Hall (PA). Coach Bair will be looking for successful season from the key players profiled below.
Teddy Cyr (2027) 5'11 point guard - 2025-26 All NEPSAC A Honorable Mention. Cyr's point guard skills and table-setting ability is what pulls his team's offense together. He does a great job Nash dribbling under the rim and going from good shot to great shot, but he can also take advantage of the defense from the perimeter, both off the catch and off the dribble. Zaden Ranson (2027) 6’4, 205lb small forward - A multi-sport athlete from Charleston, WV. 2026 MaxPreps West Virginia Athlete of the Year. 3X West Virginia state champion - basketball, baseball and soccer. 2026 WV Hardman Award Winner honoring the top school athlete in West Virginia. 2026 West Virginia Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. 3X 1st Team All-State AA basketball and baseball. 2024 Player of the Game in the State Basketball Championship. Surpassed 1000 points, 800 rebounds, 200 assists at Charleston Catholic High. Ranson is a stretch 4 position that can guard 1-5 and score in a variety of ways. He is a great offensive rebounder. Rasmus Ricci (2028)| 6’9” 225 lbs power forward - From West Palm Beach, FL, Ricci is an explosive interior presence with excellent size, athleticism, and feel around the rim. He combines physicality with strong instincts on both ends of the floor and excels at finishing through contact, rebounding, and creating opportunities in the paint. Ricci currently plays club basketball for Expressions Elite Premier.
Cooper Sparks (2027) 6'6 wing - An incoming post grad from Rutland VT, 2025-26 First Team All Southern Vermont League. Sparks can shoot it from deep and create his own shot off the dribble. He finishes well around the rim off the bounce and in transition. Can defend multiple positions. Has a high basketball IQ and is a great teammate. Lorenzo Stabilini (2027) 6'3 guard - A post grad from Fairfield Ludlowe High (CT), Lorenzo is a three-level scorer. He can shoot it from the perimeter, create off the dribble, and finish around the rim. He has the handle to create his own shot and the versatility to play both on and off the ball. Tim Loughrey (2028) 6'4 - An incoming repeat junior from Holyoke, MA, Loughrey is a big, physical guard who consistently uses his size and strength to his advantage. He plays effectively off two feet, does a good job initiating contact, and utilizes bumps and spins to create advantages and finish through defenders. He averaged 20 ppg in the MIAA last season and was named a First Team All-Western MA selection.
Marty Rodriguez (2028) 5'11 guard - A junior from New York, NY, Rodriguez is a skilled and intelligent point guard with a strong feel for the game. He excels at creating for himself and others, plays with pace, and has the ability to impact the game with his craftiness around the rim as well as his three point shot. A competitive guard with a high basketball IQ, Rodriguez continues to develop his strength and overall game. Plays club basketball for Rens United EYCL. 3.8 gpa
Zeke Williams (2028) 6'2 guard - A returning junior from Madison, CT, Williams is a sharpshooter who can really fill it up from deep. He has a quick release both off the catch and bounce. Bear Donovan (2029) 6'5 guard - Donovan, a returner to the program, is a shooter with deep range and a quick release. Tough and hard-nosed combo guard. Has a high IQ and sees the floor well. After a four inch growth spurt this past year, he now has very good length for his position allowing him to elevate over defenders around the rim and in the mid-range. Tough shot making ability that will help him against bigger defenders. Still maturing physically. Plays for The House We Built on the HGSL circuit.
