2026-27 Western Reserve Academy Player Profiles

Founded in 1826, Western Reserve Academy (WRA) is a coeducational boarding and day college preparatory school located in Hudson, OH. The school has 430 students from over 33 states and 28 countries attending. The name comes from the area in which it was built, the Connecticut Western Reserve. The settlers from Connecticut wanted to build a school of the same caliber as Yale College. People called it "the Yale of the West." In 1882, the college section moved north to Cleveland and became Western Reserve University.

The WRA men’s basketball team is a college basketball feeder program. It took a big step up in profile in 2020. Pete Hutchins left an assistant coaching job at George Mason to become head coach at WRA and brought Matt Garvey with him from Providence. In 2023, Hutchins moved into the Director of Athletics role, with Garvey running the team. In 2024. Coach Garvey played a prep year at New Hampton School (NH), then went on to be a team manager at Providence College under Coach Ed Cooley. Cooley eventually made Garvey his special assistant for the team.
