Springfield Commonwealth Reboots with Bergeron
In 2024 Wall Street hedge fund executive Angelene Huang was approached about turning around a failing Springfield Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, MA. The college preparatory school educates children in grades 6-12. Huang saw enough potential in SCA that she joined the new investor group and became its president.
This year she has brought in a proven program builder to the run the school’s college prep basketball program. Tony Bergeron has coached over 650 high school games in his 20 year coaching career in the northeast and also spent two years as an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts under coach Matt McCall. Bergeron also worked as a program director for the renowned Five-Star Basketball Camp, a camp that has helped produce over 500 NBA and over 10,000 Division I players, for nearly 15 years. He also organizes and hosts the PJN Classic, a college prospect focused showcase for prep school and high school teams.
Bergeron's reputation and connections has served him well in his quest to bring in college prospects to play for SCA in 2025-2026. They will be running multiple teams, including a team in both the Power 5 Conference’s AAA and AA divisions and a team in the New England Independent Prep League.
