Pomfret Adds a New Coach and a Player of the Year
Founded in 1894, the Pomfret School is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory boarding and day school in Pomfret, serving 350 students in grades 9 through 12 and post-graduates.
Its boys varsity basketball team competes for a seed in the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class B Championship tournament in March. The team annually competes against Class B powers Canterbury School (CT), Rivers School (MA), and Brooks School (MA) as well as Class A teams Suffield Academy (CT), Williston Northampton School (MA), Deerfield Academy (MA) and Loomis Chaffee School (CT) and Class AA programs such as Cheshire Academy (CT). Their regular season tournaments have included the Rivers School Holiday Tournament and the Kingswood-Oxford School “Frosty Francis” Holiday Invitational.
In April, the school brought in a new head coach, Allen Harris. Harris is a NEPSAC alum, having done PG year at Suffield Academy back in 2010. His coaching stints include D2 Virginia State University, D2 Lincoln University, Maine Red Claws of the NBA G League and as high school assistant coach at his alma mater Catholic Memorial (MA) and at Nobles and Greenough School (MA).
