Haverford School, A Savvy Seven

The Haverford School is an all-boys college preparatory day school, kindergarten through grade twelve, serving about 950 students. Founded in 1884, it is located in Haverford, PA, about 14 miles northeast of Philadelphia. The school is a member of the Inter-Academic League, the country's oldest inter-scholastic athletic conference. The Haverford School's varsity boys' basketball team is a high-level program that plays a challenging schedule, culminating in the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools tournament in February. The program has a history of success, including a perfect 28-0 season in 2019 that included a PAISAA Championship.

The team's 2025-16 game schedule and results can be found by clicking here.

The team is coached by the highly regarded veteran, Bernie Rogers, and he is assisted by Keith Czarny, Rob Wharton, Andy Franz and Nick Flowers. Their seven key players for the 2025-26 season are profiled below.

#2 Conor Morsell (2027) 6’2 guard (Committed to Notre Dame lacrosse) - Morsell, an elite multi-sport athlete and one of the top lax players in the nation. His toughness and high IQ is what sets him apart on the basketball court. Digging out loose balls, taking charges, and trusting the offense are simple winning plays that Morsell does to help the team be successful. Morsell is the ultimate glue guy that can also knock down a three, get to the rim off the dribble, and guard the opposing team’s best player.

#3 Dillon Gamble (2026) 6’2 point guard - Gamble is your prototypical, run-the-team point guard. An outstanding leader on the court, his unselfish attitude is contagious to his teammates. Working hard in the weight room this past season has improved his defense oftentimes guarding the other team’s best guard. His high IQ and great change of pace dribble allow him to get to the rim at will. Currently receiving D2 and D3 recruitment.

#4 Silas Graham (2027) 6’5 guard - Already scoring 1,000 points in his high school career, Graham has been a starter since 8th grade. He is one of the best defenders in the Philadelphia-area on and off the ball. An efficient scorer, Graham is a matchup nightmare as he does a lot of his damage posting up smaller guards and then blowing by bigger players on drives. An above average shooter Graham, can knock down catch and shoot threes or come off a ball screen and knock them down off the dribble. As talented as Graham is, his best attribute is his coach-ability. He tries to get better every day and is a selfless leader for his teammates. Holds offers from Richmond, St. Joseph’s, Belmont, Drexel, and Iona. Notre Dame and Stanford have been in to check him out as well.

#5 Emmanuel Butts (2026) 6’7 small forward - Butts is an athletic forward that runs the court very well in transition. He uses his elite athleticism and improved dribbling to finish above the rim. His high IQ allows him to read defenses and be an effective passer out of the post. Due to injuries early in his high school career, he has flown somewhat under the radar in recruiting. With good health and an ever-improving jump shot, expect some D1’s to check in by the end of the year. He has already visited many D2 and D3 schools.

#11 Franklin Gilbert (2027) 6’4 wing - Gilbert is a knock down shooter that needs to be guarded as soon as he crosses half court. A willing and talented passer with a high basketball IQ, Gilbert uses his ability to make threes to drive by defenders and create scoring opportunities for his teammates. Currently being recruited at the D3 level.

#12 Owen Murphy (2028) 6’5 forward - Murphy is a high-motor big that can finish around the rim and create havoc in the paint. A relentless rebounder, Murphy has a knack for securing missed shots on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. An elite baseball player, Murphy is one of the top right-handed pitchers in the state with a 91mph fastball.

#21 Walter Plimpton (2028) 6’7 small forward - Plimpton is a classic stretch forward who can score both in the paint and along the perimeter. An improved post player, Plimpton can back down smaller defenders and score or has the ability to read a defense, see a double team, and kick to a teammate for an open shot. During the June live period, Plimpton averaged double figures demonstrating a soft touch from the perimeter and the ability to rebound over taller defenders.
