2026-27 Wilbraham & Monson Academy (MA) Player Profiles
Wilbraham & Monson Academy (WMA) is a prestigious, nationally recognized boarding school with roots tracing back over two centuries located nine miles East of Springfield. WMA educates grades 6–12 and a postgraduate year. WMA's history is a combination of two founding institutions: Monson Academy, founded in 1804, and Wesleyan Academy, founded in 1817, which later became Wilbraham Academy. After several decades as rivals, these two boys' schools merged in 1971 to form the coeducational school.
Their mens basketball team is a college basketball feeder program. It vies annually for a seed in the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class AA tournament. In doing so, they face some of the toughest prep school competition in the nation.
The team is head coached by Mike Mannix. The WMA 2025-26 roster is stocked with the college prospects as profiled below. Mannix is now in his 17th year on the staff and 12th as head coach. His coaching résumé before WMA was an internship with the Indiana Pacers, assistant coaching at the D-II level, and Basketball Operations at Drexel University. His signature accomplishments were winning the 2019-20 NEPSAC Class AA Championship — WMA's first basketball title in 34 years — followed by an undefeated pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season. The talent he's developed includes Kyle Filipowski Gatorade Massachusetts Player of the Year, Duke University and the Utah Jazz; Matt Filipowski, Harvard; Wenyen Gabriel '16, University of Kentucky and the NBA; Deven Austin, Princeton University; Miles Lester; Rice University. Mannix also coached in "The Basketball Tournament" for three summers, including Marcus Smart's team and the UMass alumni squad. Coach Mannix is also a team coach for the NABC's NCAA Basketball Academy.
The program's motto is "ALL IN", as in performing to one's best in the classroom and on the court. Team gpa has been above 3.0 for seven straight years and at or above 3.5 for four of those. The program won WMA's first-ever Trustees Cup in 2020, an award for combined academic, athletic, and community achievement.
