2025-26 Western Reserve Academy is Loaded

Founded in 1826, Western Reserve Academy (WRA) is a coeducational boarding and day college preparatory school located in Hudson, Ohio, United States. The school has 430 students from over 33states and 28 countries attending. The name comes from the area in which it was built, the Connecticut Western Reserve. The settlers from Connecticut wanted to build a school of the same caliber as Yale College. People called it "the Yale of the West." In 1882, the college section moved north to Cleveland and became Western Reserve University.

The WRA  men’s basketball team is a college basketball feeder program. In 2024, the team made its first National Prep Championship tournament, and shocked the field by winning it.

The team is coached by Matt Garvey. Coach Garvey played a prep year at New Hampton School (NH), then went on to be a team manager at Providence College under Coach Ed Cooley. Cooley eventually made Garvey his special assistant for the team.  This year’s squad, as profiled below, also looks formidable.

Anthony Thompson (2026) 6'9 wing - Has an elite skill set at his size. Regarded as one of the best shooters in the 2026 class he can score it from all 3 levels. A consensus top 15 kid and 5 Star. Has received multiple D1 offers, including Ohio State, Kentucky, UNC, Indiana, Michigan and Texas. Plays AAU with Indiana Elite.

Cam Hailey (2026) 6'0 point guard - A true PG with high level feel for the game. Plays with pace and poise beyond his years. Can score from all 3 levels. Puts an incredible amount of pressure on defense whether he is getting paint touches or creating advantages in ball screens. Makes the game easier for his teammates as he finds them for open / easy looks. Has received multiple D1 offers, including  UMass, Arizona State, St Bonaventure, Fairfield and Chattanooga. Plays AAU with Expressions.

Donovan Carney (2026) – 6'3 guard - A super athletic combo guard who thrives in transition. Very good shooter from three with a step-back that allows him to get his shot off at any moment. Shows exceptional dexterity around the rim, using his athleticism and body control to finish creatively in traffic. Offers: Fairfield, Akron, Maine, Bucknell. Plays AAU with TNBA Ohio. High academic

Dom Sprague (2026) 6'0 guard - A tough, hard-nosed guard who competes every second he’s on the floor. He’s a very good shooter from three, a crafty finisher, and an exceptional athlete with explosiveness around and in the paint. Plays AAU with City Rocks.

Rares Trandafir (2026) 6'10 center - Has a unique combination of size / ability to shoot from deep. Deadly pick & pop threat with a soft touch inside. Challenges everything around the rim. Still filling out / needs to add strength. Plays AAU with Next Level Elite. High academic

Justyce Icart (2026) 5'10 point guard - A heady PG who really knows how to play. Has NBA range from 3. Can play in 2 man actions as well as be an elite floor spacer. Communicates and competes at the highest level. Plays AAU with BTI. High academic

Soren Roberts (2026) 6'8 center - Super physical forward. Soft touch with his right hand over his left shoulder. Can make a 3 when set. Effective in screen-n-rolls. A good rebounder wreaking havoc on the offensive glass. Constantly draws fouls.

Asher Suardini (2026) 6'0 guard - Competitive guard who really knows how to play. Can really shoot it off the catch and the bounce. Will pick up full court - physical defender.  High academic

Breylon Webb (2026) 6'7 wing - A long, rangy, athletic wing from Seattle. Breylon was the Defensive Player of the Year last season at O’Dea in the Seattle Metro League. He’s a very good shooter off the catch, elite in transition, and excels at attacking closeouts. An unselfish player who consistently makes the extra pass. Has received offers from Bucknell and Stetson. Plays AAU with Beauchamp. 

Henry Fox (2027) 6'9 forward - Known for his ability to shoot from 3, Fox has developed into a crafty 3 level scorer. Has a great touch inside and is deadly as a pick-n-pop forward. His athleticism has caught up since his growth spurt and he looks to be a highly sought after prospect in 2027. Has been offered by Albany. Plays AAU with City Rocks. High academic

Luka Ioannisci (2027) 6'6 Guard - 3 scorer who sets up a lot of his game with his ability to shoot from 3. Plays off 2 feet in the paint & has a good pace to how he moves. Very good athlete with an explosive 1st step. Has been offered by Albany. Pays AAU with City Rocks. High academic

Lukas McCanna (2027) 6'9 center - A big-bodied 5-man who can really move. Has a soft touch around the rim and tries to dunk anything and everything. Excellent rim protector who goes vertical with two hands. Physical on both ends of the floor, constantly ducking in and eating up space. An outstanding screener who creates numerous advantages with his size and physicality. Embraces contact, and his presence is felt everywhere. Plays AAU with Colorado Collective.  High academic

CJ Reef (2027) 6'2 guard - Big time shooter with a quick release and range. High IQ player - constantly talking and moving. Growing as a ball handler and decision maker. High academic
